While it is entirely reasonable to just say "no", I am not sure why you need to take personal shots at the techcrunch blogger. ... "it’s enough to make a reporter–oops, newbie blogger–weep". This from a "legit" journalist?

Oh well, at least we know you think enough of his work to read his blog.

Too much emphasis is being put on a company's ideas, rather than the basic fundamentals. I would love to hear how these companies plan to make money, what their business plan says and where they see their company in 5 years. You know, the stuff they tech you about in business school? :)

A good portion of these entrepeneurs use the following formula:

1) Come up with an idea
2) Get VC money
3) Flip business as soon as possible

Do any of these business owners plan on building something long term? Since when did the measure of success stop including longevity or profitability?

You rock, Kara! Michael should heed your advice. As a flack from way-back, Silicon Valley has birthed many "influencers" long before the blogosphere. But you know what? We all need to do our homework first and that, I'm sorry to say, just takes time. Not wine & flowers. Still, is dark chocolate allowed?....8-)

Kara, about seven years ago I remember having to keep my face straight (I died a little inside) while my boss told you that our company was pre-revenue. I'm going to have to email him your post just to remind him of the bad old days :)

Reminds me of a comment interjected at one point today during the Enterprise 2.0 Rave forum - "an adoption cycle quite different from the hype cycle." It's not just the start-ups who have got smarter and more product focused - I think the users are getting cleverer too.
