Love the metaphor though. The Sea of Scum sounds like a place I need to visit, for the morbid curiosity alone.

Kara, thanks for responding. But my decision to cancel is not based on my assumption that journalistic standards will be compromised (although over time I’m sure they will be). It’s simpler than that…I will not do business with News Corp.

It doesn’t matter if WSJ manages to survive as an island of integrity in a sea of scum, I refuse to participate in Murdoch’s way of doing business.

Judging from the comments over on the WSJ site, I’d say I’m not alone.

Kara: I liked you’re write up better than the one in the editorial section of the WSJ today. The online portion of this business is what sealed the deal. Make sure to say in your next post “I, for one, welcome our new Australian overlord. I’d like to remind him that as a trusted blogger, I can be very helpful in molding public opinion.”

It’s a sad day. The Bancrofts should be ashamed.
