If I was in charge at Aol, I think I would focus exclusively on media. With Time warner as the parent, they already have a decent library to draw from. A nice aol media player would be nice, and maybe developing software to “sign” media with the owner’s/buyer’s signature would increase the sense of ownership of media, and maybe reverse the trend of illegal media over the ‘Net. At the same time, there’s a revenue source in distributing media for other companies. Media, Media, media! That is all.

I remember when the employees at AOL made fun of Prodigy for using a third of the screen for advertising.

Now AOL is a “global advertising network”. Next thing we’ll see is AOL purchasing companies like 180Solutions or Direct Revenue.

The real question for me is how much of a bonus will Randy Falco get for his ‘cost reduction’?

Personally, I think he’s just a manager. He didn’t create AOL he just walked in a took over after others had already taken the risks.

His salary should be $250K tops with an extra $100K Christmas/Performance bonus.

Finally how about these companies start trimming the fat at the top before they start cutting the workers…
