"More astonishing, he even seemed to ask for a vig from sales of the hugely popular iPod device”

He was probably embolded by surcharges added to recording media in Canada - ostensibly to pay for illegally copied material. The regulator is reviewing thse fees applying to MP3 devices - including the iPod.

For years, I have felt that Jeff Zucker was the most overrated media executive on the planet. Admitedly, he inherited an NBC that was starting to fade and I think the hiring of Ben Silverman will eventually help to reestablish his reputation.

That said, his dismissiveness of Apple and old-school sentiment display an utter lack of imagination. I think Jeff Zucker may go down as one of the greatest "political executives" because first Bob Wright and now Jeff Immelt have been fooled. NBC needs the GE CEO to wake up or else NBCU's pathetic collection of digital properties will render them irrelevant in less than a decade.

If Zucker, NBC, and the rest of the content providers had any brains, they'd develop their own players.

As for digital, some people just don't get it, and never will. Alas... :)

I find Zucker's focus fascinating in light of how <a href="http://tvbythenumbers.com/2007/10/30/fox-dominates-weekly-network-ratings-oct-22-28/" rel="nofollow">bad his network's ratings are.</a>

His comments make fabulous fodder for the media, and a nice distraction for Zucker, but I'm pretty sure it isn't enough to distract GE from scrutinizing the numbers.
