[...] A few diehards noticed it flicker out before we did, but otherwise it’s been a fairly quiet mourning period, a far cry from its heyday two years ago when it was hailed as the future of search, and even hinted at as the next Google- SearchMe killer. SearchMe, incidentally, died in June, 2009, 15 months after raising $31 million from Sequoia Capital (that’s one impressive burn rate!) and getting a pretty nice endorsement from Kara Swisher along the way.
I recently wrote an ezine article about a new 3D web design:

an exact search: How-About-a-Virtual-Google-Avenue-Or-Yahoo-Shopping-Mall will take you to the article.

It is not only about the need for a 3D design, but perhaps more importantly, the need for multiple search boxes allowing the searcher to drill down to page level, also, the need for a virtual cache where interesting pages can be cached for further reading and comparison later.

Something I would be interested in developing is a user friendly search engine for all those millions of people who are still a little intimidated by the web.

...as far as I am aware, these options at the moment do not exist.

"We are no Google" umm, okay.

Didn't we hear this innovator dilemma argument about Google and "we are helping you with pictures of web pages" before? I think that was exactly what we heard from Snap.com and they seem to be all about their blog product now.

Someone, please give us a real innovation in search that really is enough to make me want to use it over and over.
