"As I have written again and again, such a partnership–however small it is painted by the companies–is a dangerous and unwelcome development for the Internet."

Dangerous? You make it sound like we are living in George Orwell's 1984 and Google is Big Brother...I think a Google-Yahoo partnership is long overdue. As a consumer, I want convenience, I want my Google Talk and to be compatible with my friends' Yahoo IM. Who cares about the implied implications for advertisers. Whatever argument they try to make about "less advertiser choice" leading to higher pricers for consumers is a load of bull. Whether a click costs $0.50 or $0.75 has nothing to do with the supply and demand of products (econ 101), or, subsequently, their price.
What's so scary about a domineering Google? Maybe they'll follow my IP address everywhere it goes? Sounds like fun...
1984 was bad, not because Big Brother was always watching, but because Big Brother was controlling....Google doesn't make me use its search engine, it just happens to have the best technology. You can't blame Yahoo for wanting to get in on that. And really, their advertisers should be happy about the upgrade.
