Oops, clicked myself out, so here goes again. For me, I'd bet a few buckets of gold on Jerry and Sue no matter what industry they are in. Politely pugnacious, cool, calm, aware, collected, perceptive, and people managers, what other kind of "leadership" is there?!! Yahoo lost share because they suffered from, and are still suffering from, "Google Psychological Disruptia" --- once upon a time. If the Yahoo technology has now caught up, when the stampeding Disruptia virus dissolves from the heads of the buffalo hunters, (buffalo have very very short memories in my view) the herd will be open to normal business pressures as usual, and so, due to better execution by Yahoo, together with the advantage of sophisticated use of their user base, they can pull Google back 5% per year, putting Google at 40% and them at 40% in search in 5 years time, or halve that to 2 1/2% a year average, and make it 10 years time, whilst monetizing "display" opportunities as well, if the dotcomers are right about "display". I do note the discrepancy in growth rates still, between Google and Yahoo, but I see nevertheless Google have for the first time lost market share from one survey I saw.
I am now going to try and understand the differences between search engines, and see if there is any real technological advantage anymore. I am not one for saying market leaders, cannot be overhauled by good old business methods, if there isn't. As for staff moral in Yahoo, IF it is a problem, it's a result of the inevitable feeling of being in a mature business, as opposed to a new "dimension" of human discourse, and people need to get their heads round that, or seek pastures new. It's nothing to do with management.
