Kara,

I agree that the iPhone Apps are a breed apart from anything available on Facebook. I attribute this to the high standards of software engineering and user experience design that was set by the first 16 iPhone apps and to the quality of app developers (largely drawn from the Mac developer and gaming universe) who love having a new platform that offers the ability to charge for their apps.

Given this, as I write in this post (http://blog.adonomics.com/2008/07/14/history-says-that-now-is-the-time-to-unbundle-the-iphone-os/), that NOW IS THE TIME TO UNBUNDLE THE IPHONE OS.

Hopefully, Steve won't make the same mistake he did with the Mac OS and wait for someone else to take the 96% market share position away from him.

Thanks,
Lee

Kara, most don’t really grok that so much of the magic of the iPhone platform is NOT the phone itself (although that’s plenty cool).

It’s the fact that Apple built a really solid SDK that makes building such robust applications possible.

It’s also the fact the fact that they integrated it seamlessly with App Store, which is in turn integrated seamlessly with both iTunes and iPhone/iPod touch devices, making the concept of impulse, access, buy, download, use and enjoy so staggeringly sweet.

Net-net: this is what makes for a compelling platform and game changing mobility device.
