Great post, Kara. It's funny, I just used that "ADD" analogy in a blog post comment earlier today! How true. I can't believe how many people apparently did that - loaded up their iPhone or iPod Touch with the maximum amount of apps (that's 148, by the way). Pretty insane, since they will obviously not use many of those on any given day, or week?

We've received all kinds of great consumer reaction to our apps, telling us how much they love them, via Twitter and directly through our site.

cheers,

Some Apple "critics" are mere shorters of AAPL. Others make a profession of it. Fine. But Apple is not creating open source projects where everything goes. The fact that it actually curates the ecosystem is a plus for many of us, as I explored in:

Why Apple doesn't do "Concept Products"
http://counternotions.com/2008/08/12/concept-products/

The iPhone phenomenon is just starting. Think of the many millions of people that'll be added to the userbase after XMas and addition of 70+ countries. The App Store will only grow both in quantity and quality.

In response to
"The question is how many apps can one person really manage before becoming overwhelmed. While the initial impulse is to download as many apps as possible to try them out, there is a limit to how many apps you can juggle on your iPhone."

The answer to the question is easy:
An application to manage your applications. Anyone that's used a Treo knows that comes next from the developers.

If I follow the reasoning of the naysayers and skeptics, the net out seems to be that mobile computing as a platform won’t be compelling beside web, email and phone, which seems just silly when you consider all of the venues that mobile is at least a companion to what you are doing - work, out and about, home office, living room, etc.

Put another way, one could argue that iPhone 2.0 is akin at this stage to where Windows 3.0 was in setting the stage for the rise of the PC as a mainstream computing device.

If that’s a fair comparison, it should be clear that this is the tip of a really big, compelling iceberg.

The hardware, software, service functions, tools, developer acumen, marketing and consumer awareness -- which is already pretty darn good -- will only get better.

Here’s a post I wrote assessing the experience to date from a user perspective:

iPhone 2.0 - What it Means to be Mobile
