The only thing Yahoo has that people are WOWed over is Flickr, and while I actually prefer Google's equivalent photo thing I guess I'm not Yahoo's target market any more as I am not in state government looking to get my e-mail hacked.

But so far all I've heard is talk, talk, talk.

How about they challenge Google for document storage? Challenge Amazon for database stuff? Or how about they do something new that nobody has ever thought of?

Their "maybe, might, gonna" is going to turn into "coulda, shoulda, woulda" if they don't stop talking and start walking.

I personally think they are in a catch-22 where they don't have the infrastructure to support another flikr-like property (or several) and they can't get that infrastructure (without going negative) until they have some hot new products to bring in new users. This is a situation they should have started considering six years ago.

They need to really innovate (not to be confused with a word used by Microsoft with the same spelling) or find some merger partners. I can fully understand them not wanting to be a part of the Microsoft Borg. But there are many other companies out there, particularly now, that could probably benefit from some synergy.

Yahoo should not merge, nor sell their search.

Yahoo should;

Note to Jerry Yang;

1) Recognize that you are not the one to lead / reposition YHOO. Stick to your knitting, you're making a fool out of yourself.

2) Spin off all non-strategic assets IE Alibaba,Y Japan,etc (approximate value of $15 billion of its current market cap).

3) 15%-20% reduction in headcount.

4) Dutch auction/buyback of stock .

5) Stake and spin/off new stand alone initiatives.

6) Go COMPLETELY Open Source, and let others build in an ecosystem.
