I am not wrong and this is not the first time 'the same old people' decide that something political has something to do with tech. it does not. just like the 'censorship' battle in the 90's when congress wanted to put controls on what was viewable by children or 'fair use' which is not only inaccurate as described as an excuse for 'music sharing' but again nothing but a liberal opinion repeated endlessly. I have no dog in this propositions' fight and I dont care how it ends. I just dont want to see it referenced where it does not belong, in a tech blog.

S:

It is unusual for CEOs to even comment on controversial issues and speaking out does matter, whether they are gay or not.

And why would that make a difference anyway? See the comment from Steve Westly, who is not gay, but considers it an important issue.

M:

Exactly. Tolerance has been a hallmark in tech hiring, going back to the first company to make statements in support of its gay employees.

IBM.

Really.

It is a big chunk of the leaders of Silicon Valley taking a stand on an controversial issue. That's news in tech. Sorry, but you are wrong.

looks more like posturing from a bunch of silicon valley execs -- an empty endorsement that affects none of them personally (as in they are gay)

Robert, this is relevant to technology. If we vote Yes on 8, California will lose its competitive edge in hiring the best and brightest of workers. For example in San Diego, biotech firms are lobbying people to vote No because, Massachusetts would have a competitive edge in hiring workers at their biotech firms. San Diego and the bay area account for 50% of the world's biotech firms.
