Yahoo Search Guy Raghavan Speaks! (Actually, He WOOs!)

pr_big

Yesterday, Yahoo’s top search execs had a little sit-down with reporters and bloggers, including BoomTown, about some of the search innovations it has been working on.

It was no coincidence, since Microsoft (MSFT) is expected to launch a massive overhaul of its search offering next week at the D: All Things Digital conference that Walt Mossberg and I host annually.

After the presentation, which focused on open, mobile, consumer intent and the “Web of objects, not pages,” which Yahoo (YHOO) is calling WOO (no, really, WOO), I got a chance to chat with Yahoo’s Prabhakar Raghavan, head of Yahoo Labs and Yahoo Search Strategy, about all that, as well as competition with Microsoft and search leader Google (GOOG).

I also got him to cheer: “WOO!” My work is done.

  • was excited to check out this video but unfortunately the brightcove player is flash and not available on iPhone, then I thought surely if I download the all thingsD iphone app I can watch it there... but instead get a blank space IN THE IPHONE APP which says "An iPhone compatible version of this video will appear here soon." Should I just start perusing YouTube instead? Mossberg would be so dissapointed... I think.
  • B:

I am the only exception to getting video up right, due not to the app, but my slowness in moving over. This video will be up right soonest and it was entirely my fault.
  • many thanks Kara! I did finally get a listen and thought it was quite interesting indeed... thanks for doing it. I saw that SAI panned the Y! approach but I thought it was pretty forward thinking myself, particularly for a company that gets accused of well not being particularly innovative.
