Carol Bartz could be the world's best manager, but fundamentally it's still not clear what business Yahoo is in. The confused identity of a portal/start page, a content aggregator, a group of communities, and/or a search engine remains as befuddling as when Jerry ran it. And all those are declining businesses for Yahoo--when they were all growing, maybe it didn't matter. Answer this question for yourself--what does the Yahoo brand mean to you? Mostly likely there is not a clear answer. The answer for me is -- continued confusion.
