C:

Fair point, but it is an expectations game here.

MSFT has been pretty much a downer in last few quarters about results, so this is a plus and sign of recovery.

It seems I'm living in a Bizarro World.

Can't anyone see that Microsoft's earnings are terrible? They brought in $2 billion less this quarter than last year.

And that's supposed to be good news?

All the other tech giants have shown that there doesn't need to be any dramatic hit due to the economy. In fact some are seeing their greatest quarter ever.

So we're celebrating that income and revenue were "not as down nearly as much as people expected."

And they "blew away" all estimates?

That has nothing to do with Microsoft's "success." It just means that the estimates and whisper numbers were lousy.

I look forward to the revelry next quarter when they earn only $1 billion less than last year.

Woo-hoo. Go Microsoft!
