The Yahoo Circus Pulls Into Sun Valley Next Week

Starting Tuesday this week, all the major players in the Yahoo-Microsoft-Everyone-And-Their-Mother circus will line their private jets up in Sun Valley for the high-powered 26th annual Allen & Co. confab of tech and media moguls.

That would be Microsoft, Yahoo, News Corp., Time Warner (which owns AOL), as well as Google.

It could be like that five families sitdown in the “Godfather” movies, except none of the parties can even seem to metaphorically whack each other, as the Yahoo saga drags on interminably.

Harvard Dropout Zuckerberg Feted by, Well, Harvard!

hbs

Oh the sweet irony of Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg getting awarded a big round glass object, suitable for mantel-showing-off, from Harvard types.

Especially since he is now the school’s second most famous tech mogul dropout–after Microsoft’s Bill Gates.

But that was the case last night at the San Francisco Airport Hyatt Regency, where the 24-year-old Zuckerberg collected the 30th Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award from the Harvard Business School Association of Northern California.

Microsoft’s Not Bluffing

dogpoker

Look, it might be the biggest poker bluff in history and analysts are once again chattering that Yahoo’s ad outsourcing deal with Google might force Microsoft back to make another offer for the Internet portal.

MicroHoo: A Deal Must Be Done

microhoo.jpg

While Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer and Yahoo’s CEO Jerry Yang hemmed and hawed about what had happened in their disastrous takeover battle that ended not with a bang, but a whimper, everyone else who appeared onstage at the sixth D: All Things Digital conference last week was a bit more definitive about what should occur now:

Get it done.

MicroHoo: The Gates Factor

billgates

Sure, Microsoft and Yahoo are talking this weekend about some deal that makes all parties happy.

But make no mistake: It is Yahoo pushing the one-price-buys-all idea, while it is Microsoft that would still prefer to buy just some of Yahoo’s assets, specifically its search and search-ad business.

Why? Look no further than Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, who has been relatively silent as this whole takeover circus has unfurled over the last several months.
