A Gathering Storm of Viral Videos on Gay Marriage!

gaythering2

The issue of gay marriage is always good for controversy and lots and lots of rancorous lobbying on both sides of the issue. These days, of course, that includes a battle of online videos.

The latest two are dueling it out on the issue, using a menacing storm as the theme, one quite serious and the other not at all, since it includes a giant gay repellent umbrella.

Watch them both here.

Finally, a Reason to Bring a Little More Lindsanity to BoomTown

u740-homejpg

Whatever her personal turmoil, troubled actress Lindsay Lohan–aka Lindsanity–has been the patron saint of the Web’s gossip sites, as well as magazines and more, most recently for the spectacular and restraining-orders-all-around breakup she has had with DJ Samantha Ronson.

So where did Lohan go to get some control of the crazed situation back?

Why the Internet, of course, with a pretty funny video of a spoof of an eHarmony online dating ad that is now a big hit on the comedy Web site, Funny or Die.

“Prop 8–The Musical”: Another Viral Video Hit?

Though just posted on the Funny or Die comedy Web site, a new online video spoof on California’s Proposition 8 has already garnered almost one million views.

The video has a star-studded cast, all singing Marc Shaiman’s “Prop 8–The Musical,” including Jack Black (as, um, Jesus), Neil Patrick Harris, John C. Reilly, Margaret Cho, Allison Janney and others.

Loves It: Life Was Better When Martin Sheen Was “Fake” President (We’re Not So Sure About Paris, Though)

Famous-for-being-famous celebrity Paris Hilton continues her comic run for “fake” President of the United States, with a new online video for the Funny or Die comedy site.

In the latest, Hilton consults the most famous of fake Presidents, actor Martin Sheen, who played President Jed Bartlett for many seasons on the NBC hit “The West Wing.”

BoomTown really misses C.J. and the rest of the team.

The Very Last Online Sarah Palin Spoof We’ll Post (Until the Tina Fey One, Of Course)

Last week, BoomTown posted just some of the many, many online video spoofs of Alaska Governor and Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Gov. Palin, one of the more colorful political figures to pop up in years, is like the gift that keeps on giving to the Web comedy world, which seems to be churning out video after video of mock impersonations of her.

Here’s the best I have seen so far, by well-known actress Gina Gershon–who actually looks like her–on the most excellent Funny or Die comedy Web site.

That’s Hot: Paris Hilton Strikes Back at the “White-Haired Dude”

In a tempest-in-a-teapot political scandalette, Republican Presidential candidate Sen. John McCain used images of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears in a television ad attacking his Democratic opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, as a celebrity.

It was tasteless and also offensive to Hilton and Spears, which seems an almost impossible task–way to go!

Now, wasting no time in taking advantage of the brouhaha and drawing attention just where it should be–to herself, of course–Hilton did this clever video spoof for the Funny or Die comedy Web site.

Weepy Singer John Mayer Is Actually Funny

While I sometimes want to throttle him for his more cloying songs, like the agonizing “Your Body Is a Wonderland,” it’s clear John Mayer has a good sense of humor about his image.
The smoky-eyed singer-songwriter and guitarist, who also has yet to meet a Hollywood actress he doesn’t date (current date: Jennifer Aniston!), just released [...]

Jerry O’Connell Channels Tom Cruise

Until the writers’ strike in Hollywood is over–who knew it would go on this long?–BoomTown has decided to offer periodic suggestions about cool new stuff to watch.

Today, it is this gem from online video comedy site Funny or Die, in which Jerry O’Connell (who knew he was so hilarious?) does a mean and spot-on imitation [...]

Sequoia Capital’s Mark Kvamme Speaks!

We at BoomTown are very interested in content on the Web these days, especially given the ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood and its wrangling over digital (and a whole lot of other) issues.
The intersection–or perhaps collision is a better word–of the entertainment and technology industries continues at an ever more frantic pace.
And it’s clear the [...]

“Good Cop, Baby Cop”

Here is the second “baby” comedy video from the Funny or Die archives with Will Ferrell and a very tough toddler, played by Pearl McKay, called “Good Cop, Baby Cop”:
Good Cop, Baby Cop on FunnyOrDie.com
And here is the post and video of FOD investor Mark Kvamme of Sequoia Capital talking about the online video space.
