Even if it never makes any money, Twitter certainly does provide fabulous material for television spoofs.

So far, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have done several funny bits on Comedy Central, deftly mocking the microblogging service.

And now, Conan O’Brien is doubling down with two skits so far dubbed “Twitter TRACKER” on GE (GE) unit NBC’s “The Tonight Show.”

In them, a loudmouthed voice delivers pointless celebrity tweets as a flock of blue cartoon Twitter birdies is murdered in various ingenious ways.

What’s not to like?

O’Brien, who is nicknamed CoCo by the Twitter TRACKER bully, hardly needs to work hard to make fun of real tweets like Ashton Kutcher’s mundanities, such as “Going to the grocery store need some fixins for a salad.”

There is also, of course, a snark-laced Web site and a Twitter page, so it looks like this Tweet-beatdown might just go on and on.

It should, if only for terms like: “Schprechen sie Tweetenshlize!”

Stone (pictured here)–who has clearly become the chatty spokesmodel for the hot microblogging service at public events all over the place of late–is set to be a guest on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report.”

Stone, of course, just updated everyone about the show on Twitter and also on his blog site.

I have no doubt it will be snarktastic, especially given the bulls-eye piece Stephen Colbert’s comic twin, Jon Stewart of “The Daily Show,” did on Twitter recently, nailing the unholy media obsession with tweeting.

Until the show, which we will post later, here is a very funny video Colbert did for our 2007 D: All Things Digital conference about the Internet, when Viacom (VIA) head Philippe Dauman was interviewed onstage, so Biz can better prepare for his comic grilling, um, interview.

I know that “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart does not need even more praise for his spot-on comic and very real jabs at the CNBC financial cable network and its milquetoast coverage of the financial crisis, pre and post.

The silliness that prevails too much over doing serious and rigorous reporting that Stewart takes perfect aim at is a major problem.

Taking CEO spinning at face value and letting them yammer on on air without being challenged much at all has always been excruciating to watch at best and woefully irresponsible at worst.

But, to my mind, the most important thing that he elicited out of CNBC’s most famous stock jester, Jim Cramer, was the part of the interview discussing using the malleable press to float fictional rumors about companies in order to make money on the negative news.

While Cramer at first tried to deny he did it, Stewart had the videotape of the “Mad Money” host talking about the practice, specifically in regard to Apple (AAPL).

His appalling idea to make a quick buck? Making it up that the mobile carriers did not like the iPhone right before Macworld, in this case in 2006.

“And this is very easy because the people who write about Apple want that story, and you can claim that it’s credible because you spoke to someone at Apple, because Apple doesn’t…comment,” said Cramer cavalierly, as if he was not talking about a way to essentially steal other people’s money and hurt Apple unfairly, to interviewer Aaron Task, then at Cramer’s own TheStreet.com.

“So it’s really an ideal short. And again if I were short Apple, I’d pick up the phone and I’d do that today.“

Bernie Madoff would be so proud, if he wasn’t otherwise imprisoned for life!

Kind of puts all those Steve-Jobs-Is-Dead-Right-Now rumors of a few months ago into a new light?

It’s been obvious that the legendary Apple CEO has been quite ill from his appearance alone.

But, as BoomTown has always maintained, the rumors written without any serious reporting about him were also a troublesome issue because it was that clear short-sellers played a large part in stoking the fear about his imminent demise, given how important Jobs has been to Apple.

(Although, this has not seemed to stop Apple from releasing a lot of really cool stuff of late, like the new Shuffle, which Walt Mossberg reviewed here.)

While Apple has not been adequately forthcoming, either, about the Jobs situation, that does not mean the press–as Stewart correctly points out–should not try to actually do its job and dig for what is really going on rather than just slap up unsubstantiated blather.

“It’s not a f@#*ing game,” said Stewart perfectly. Indeed not.

After her stemwinder of a speech, where Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin finally broke her silence of the last week in an edgy address at the party’s convention (pictured above from Getty Images), it seems like a good time to peruse some of the many Palin-focused videos popping up on the Web.

No surprise–most are comical spoofs of the colorful politician, but there are all kinds. Then again, Palin seems a quip machine, and in her speech last night she managed to call herself a pit bull with lipstick.

First up, a brilliant one from Jon Stewart of “The Daily Show,” in which he points out with dueling video clips just how doubled-faced some Republican operatives and pundits have been defending Palin by playing the gender card:

Next, a very funny news vlogger giving one of the more informative reports on Palin I have seen so far:

There is nothing like a man in drag, but I am still amazed how this guy managed to work classic lines from “Toostie” into his Palin impression:

And ABBA’s “Lay All Your Love on Me” is the soundtrack to this great photo montage of Palin (although I am not sure why polars bears inexplicably appear at the end):

It’s all part of the three-ring circus that the copyright-infringement lawsuit between the Google-owned video-sharing unit and media giant Viacom, which owns Comedy Central, where “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report” air, will likely become.

Viacom is suing Google for $1 billion for allegedly letting stolen content proliferate on its service.

Viacom’s imperious chairman and main shareholder Sumner Redstone is also on the Google witness list, a deposition that will likely be comical in its own unintended way. But we want a front-row seat for Stewart and Colbert, who probably like how popular their material is on the Web.

Now, thankfully, Viacom is providing a lot of embedded clips from both shows and I am guessing really wants to settle this and get on with the job of monetizing its video trove (doubtlessly, with Google’s help).

Google, on the other hand, is ridiculously stubborn enough not to settle, even though it probably should, as its execs seem to want a solid decision on the issue, even if it turns out badly for the company.

In any case, video flourishes on the Internet, despite all the rancor. And it is even funny.
