Well Said: Ana Marie Cox on Bloggers Then and Now

The more things change, the more they actually do change.

At least, according to this excerpt from a 10-questions interview former Wonkette blogger Ana Marie Cox, who now contributes to Time magazine’s Swampland blog, did with Stop Smiling magazine.

In questions No. 7 and 8 here, she discusses the huge differences in the 2004 and 2008 presidential campaigns, in terms of blogs, and how the image of bloggers has shifted dramatically with mainstream media.

Kara Visits Burda’s DLD Luncheon in Silicon Valley!

Germany’s Hubert Burda Media threw a big luncheon in Palo Alto yesterday, which was stuffed full with Silicon Valley types. It was hosted by the company’s Steffi Czerny and Maria Burda, the wife of CEO and owner Hubert Burda, as well as well-known Israeli investor Yossi Vardi.

Burda runs an annual digital conference in Munich, called DLD (Digital, Life, Design), even though the media giant is best known for its old-line magazines about fashion, cooking and crafts.

So here’s the video!

Celeb Editor Bonnie Fuller Speaks!

Yesterday, BoomTown was hanging in Hollywood at ContentNext’s EconCeleb’s conference, where I did an onstage Q&A with legendary editor Bonnie Fuller about the massive impact of the Internet on celebrity journalism.

With its instant ability to deliver news, video and more, sites like TMZ, PerezHilton, The Superficial and Yahoo’s omg! have become massive drivers of traffic on the Internet and–despite the saturation–the arena is still growing fast, especially among women users.

The Entire D6 Interview With News Corp.’s Rupert Murdoch (6 of 6)

Sorry for the delay, but we’ll finally start posting all the interviews from the sixth D: All Things Digital conference that took place in late May in their entirety.

Kicking off the proceedings will be what most of the attendees at the conference told us they considered their favorite interview, which Walt Mossberg and I did with News Corp. Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch.

Yahoo Players Burkle, Icahn, Crawford and Also the Web Make Some News (Some, Not So Good)

vfjolie

You would have to have been under a rock not to have heard about the controversial piece in Vanity Fair magazine this month about the troubling personal and professional escapades of former President Bill Clinton since he left office.

And the reason for these disturbing developments, besides Clinton himself? The piece actually placed a good bit of the blame on Clinton’s close friend, grocery magnate and billionaire Ron Burkle, who also has been one of the key directors at Yahoo in its takeover fight with Microsoft.

Max Levchin Becomes the Internet’s New Wacky Pix Guy!

Oh, Max!
I just got through telling someone who asked me that I thought you, Slide founder Max Levchin, was one of the smarter Web 2.0 characters.
Then, of course, you get to be on the cover of Portfolio magazine for its “Brilliant” issue this month. Apparently, Max, you are Silicon Valley’s new “It” Boy.

But for all [...]

Two Don’t-Miss Dead-Tree Pieces on AOL’s Downturn and Arianna’s Upturn

I usually don’t have a lot of time to get through big, long thumbsuckers in magazines any more–what can I say? I can hardly keep up with my Twitter feed–but here are two worth a look.

Time Inc.’s Ann Moore: The Entire D5 Interview With Kara Swisher

Ann Moore says Time Inc. really does get the Internet.
It is not as if the magazine giant has had a lot of choice in that matter, but the CEO of Time Inc. seems to embrace the inevitable with resolve and even excitement–which is rare in old-media circles still–in this interview.
By way of background, D: All [...]

BoomTown has long been a big fan of Martha Stewart.
And we like her 25% more now, after seeing the new pictures she took for Wired’s latest issue, as well as a particularly sassy interview she did with the magazine.
