MSN Debuts Online Health Service

MSN, Microsoft’s online portal, released a beta version of a service to let users manage their health information on the Web.

Called My Health Info, the Microsoft offering, which includes a range of widgets and other Web tools, wades into an area that many are attempting to crack, including Google.

The Microsoft Cougar Memo: It’s Grrrrrrrrreat!

Last week, a cougar was reported to be roaming on the Redmond, Wash., campus of Microsoft.

Here’s an image the very fine global alert from Microsoft Global Security first sent last week, which assured employees of the software giant that “Microsoft Security will conduct frequent patrols of all wooded areas of the campus.”

That’s more than you can say about how the software giant handles hackers!

Cisco: The Comic Book?

On the eve of the debut of the much anticipated “Watchmen” movie from Warner Bros., Cisco seems to be getting into the superhero game, with an unusual marketing effort that uses sophisticated comic book characters to highlight its line of security products.

More like Nerdmen! Except with more muscles and cooler outfits!

On a new Web site that is now up, for a series called “The Realm,” Cisco seems to have gotten some cool original work from well-known Marvel Comics illustrator Mike Mayhew.

Yahoo Moves Ahead With Layoffs on Wednesday: The Sad Details

While there are layoffs all over now, as evidenced by the dismal jobs reports last week, the long-planned Yahoo layoffs will definitely be taking place Wednesday. The layoff number was announced by its (eventually outgoing) CEO Jerry Yang on its last earnings call on Oct. 21. BoomTown wrote about the exact timing of the sad date a few weeks ago. Many Yahoos have emailed me to ask the particulars last week, since most at the company don’t know what’s up. Here’s what I found out.
