Boyle Then Was as Good as Boyle Today: God Bless the Queen of Online Viral Video

boyle

Here’s more extraordinary video of Susan Boyle, the Scottish singing sensation.

The unknown 47-year-old appears in new online videos unearthed by Scotland’s Daily Record and shot at a 1984 competition at the Fir Park Social Club in Motherwell.

She is 22 in these videos, but sings “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “The Way We Were” just as well as she did recently on “Britain’s Got Talent.”

How much does BoomTown love viral video? Much, in this case.

The Last Susan Boyle Post, I Promise–But It Turns Out She Can Cry a Digital River

cry-me-a-river

The Internet sensation that is Susan Boyle just keeps getting better.

The Daily Record in Scotland uncovered a 10-year-old recording that the 47-year-old woman made for a charity CD.

Singing the classic blues ballad, “Cry Me a River,” Boyle more than proves she has the range of the truly gifted artist (not to mention emotional depths that seem endless here) she displayed recently on a British television talent show, which has turned her into a viral Web celebrity.

Boylemania, Part II: TV to Internet to TV to Internet…

boyle2

Susan Boyle’s sensational television singing performance jumped from that medium to become a viral Internet hit, fueling more television that is, of course, headed to the Internet again.

Who says old and new media can’t work together?

The YouTube official version of the original TV performance is now at 15.6 million views.

Good Luck Trying to Share the Angelic Voice of Susan Boyle

susan_boyle_auditionjpg

Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle is indeed all she is cracked up to be.

But her virality on the Internet is not, even though she has–in fact–become an Internet sensation.

Though the performance of the unemployed 47-year-old woman–dressed in a dowdy frock, wowing the judges on the television show, “Britain’s Got Talent” with an astonishing rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables”–has been viewed many millions of times now and growing, it’s not easy to move it around on the Web.

It should be.

Viral Video: Forget Twitter, Google–How About Acquiring Nanoblogger Flutter?

flutter2

On Friday, amid all the hoopla around acquisition rumors swirling around Twitter, Slate put out a very funny spoof on a fictional new service called Flutter.

The online magazine’s mockumentary about a nanoblogging service is definitely more amusing than contemplating the fate of the real-life microblogging service.

It’s mascot, of course, is a hummingbird and its 26-character messages are called “flaps.”

Here’s one heck of a rumor: BoomTown is in “late-stage” discussions to buy it.

Viral Online Videos, the Funny Edition: Doombas and Anchors Away!

Here are two very funny online videos, making the rounds of late.

The first is from “The Daily Show” earlier this week, in which Samantha Bee perfectly mocks products from iRobot–best known for the automatic vacuum called the Roomba–as killerbots.

In the second, local Chicago anchors from WGN News, Robert Jordan and Jackie Bange, do a very impressive Las Vegas-style routine during the commercial break. It is hard to look away.

Viral Video: If the Shoe Fits, Mash It Up

Of course, the recent shoe attack on President George W. Bush created the perfect storm for online video. As you might know (although Bush clearly did not from this video), the showing of the sole of a shoe is the ultimate insult in Arab countries. And throwing a shoe? Well, worse. In this country, making a video about shoe-throwing is. (Also, BoomTown’s choice for the best shoe-related online video ever.)

Misty Water-Colored Memories: “Here Comes Another Bubble” Redux

Was “Here Comes Another Bubble” psychic or what?

The current tough economic situation and the deflation of the Web 2.0 bubble were certainly perfectly predicted by the huge hit online video.

In any case, it is most definitely worth another look with meltdown eyes.

Register to Vote Before Deadlines–Or Jessica Alba Will Muzzle You

One of the more interesting developments of this election cycle has been the boom in viral online videos being used–from a plethora of political spoofs of the candidates to educational videos to people simply venting.

And those pushing citizens, especially young people, to register to vote have been using the boom in online video too.

Viral Video: Tim McGraw Tosses Rowdy Fan

Here’s another viral video that is making the rounds this week of country singer Tim McGraw himself ejecting a rowdy fan from a concert earlier this week.

This video, taken by another concert-goer, was from a McGraw performance at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, Wash. It shows McGraw hauling a man by the belt out of the front row, after McGraw alleged he saw the man hit a woman.

Viral Video: Luke Russert Honors His Father

BoomTown likes to post online videos that are viral, or should be, and I could not be any more impressed with this one.
An excerpt from the eulogy that Luke Russert gave for his father–NBC’s “Meet the Press” host Tim Russert, who died suddenly of a heart attack recently–at a memorial service in Washington, D.C., a [...]

Viral Video: Dancing With the “Star Wars” Stars

We had this video hidden away in Voices today, but BoomTown had to let it run free some more!

Why?

Can you say Wookie dancing to “Footloose” and Darth Vader to “Thriller”?

Frankly, that’s all I need to achieve nirvana.

And we are not even going to explain why Princess Leia dancing to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” is simply divine.

Viral Video: Hawaii Chair and Kung-Fuing the Panda

hawaiichair

I dare you not to laugh at this video from Ellen DeGeneres’s show, which was put up several months ago, but is suddenly enjoying a lot of popularity on the Web.

The video speaks for itself, but it has DeGeneres trying out a thing called a Hawaii chair.

The Very Dark Knight

It is hard to look away from the swirl of media that the untimely and tragic death of Heath Ledger has engendered, and the Internet has jacked the frenzy into overdrive.

Along with an explosion of Web stories and video about the late actor–unfortunately too, please-don’t videos from outside the home of his family seem particularly appalling–there has also been controversy around a very prominent online marketing campaign that has been going on related to the next in the blockbuster Batman series, “The Dark Knight.”

WSJ Online: How to Make Viral Videos

Here’s a great video from WSJ Online about what it takes for a small business to make viral videos.
I like it, of course, because it gives me a chance to also include another video from my favorite viral site, Blendtec’s “Will It Blend?” with the blending genius Tom Dickson. Here, he blends “Guitar Hero [...]
